Bruised fingers

Postby sisk » 7 Jul 2016 16:05

Last night, bored and with nothing to do, I picked for about 4 hours straight. Then again today I've been picking locks for several hours. And now my hand looks like this.

The bruising on my thumb is worse than it looks in the picture. Am I holding my picks wrong or is this just to be expected when you pick for many hours straight?

A little of both. But certainly lighten up on the tension.

I've already got a pretty light touch for tension. These bruises are all from my picks, not my tension tools.

If you are needing that much pressure on the pick, you are either still using too much tension or you are trying to pick the wards instead of the pins. Maybe picking pins that are already set.

If your picks are bending or breaking. You are using too much force.

If they are fine, then your hands may need to develope some calluses.

Get yourself a manual pick gun, and you won't have this problem

 Care to put that to the test?
Click a pick gun for 4 hours and then let us know how your fingers feel and if you have any blisters starting. Something like 4-6 clicks per minute should be reasonable.
