How do I pick this lock?! Help!

Hello there!

My wife and I lost the key to this old cabinet/hutch. I tried googling all sorts of things but I don't even know the name of this type of lock? or the style of key this might be called? Any ideas of how to get in this old cabinet/hutch? How could one pick it? Or is there a tryout key or skeleton key for this kind of thing? Would a regular old locksmith be able to open it? Thanks!

Should you call a locksmith?

It would probably just be easier to buy a set of lock picks, research the lock yourself after finding information on forums as a result of you providing pictures (which should be taken in a way that shows the keyway, with no blurry or amateurish overtones and then properly upload it to this site). Then take the time to learn the skill, giving yourself enough time to ease into a firm understanding of different lock types and the issues you are likely to encounter with your particular lock.

But seriously: Yes, you can call a locksmith for this type of problem.

Just explain that it is a cabinet/hutch, and see if they do that type of work. Most of the bigger companies do pretty much everything.
