How do I use this pick?

Postby PachalT » 20 Mar 2018 6:11

I bought a fancy sparrows kit after picking through two months worth of old padlocks with a $15CAD set and I realise now that I have been torturing myself. This set is fantastic. However there is one pick that they include that looks so cool but I am not sure how to use it.

In the picture that I am about to post shows a master padlock and with the first two pics I can easily open it. I believe the first is called a triple peak bogetau (I probably spelled that wrong.) The second pick I just called it the wiggly worm because it looks like one. However the third pick is like the wiggly worm but has a cool kraken image on it I can open that lock with the first two picks but not with the Kraken.

[ADMIN EDIT:
The reason your photos are not showing up is because your web address is not a link to a photo, it's a link to a website where the photo lives. The link needs to be the EXACT location on that server where the photo is. Our [image] command looks at your address and says, ummm, there's no photo file specified in this address, I'm not sure what to show.

This is a link to the server that you posted: https://imgur.com/gallery/s6jjP

This is a link to the actual photo on the server: https://i.imgur.com/oNAg7o1.jpg <-- See the actual photo file named oNAg7o1.jpg ? This is what the [image] command needs to see in order to show it here on the forum.

In order to get this direct link, you can look for a direct link button on imgur's website or right click the image and click Copy Image Location.

I also noticed you are uploading all of your photos for *everyone* on imgur to see and make comments on, when you upload a photo, click the drop down box to make it Private not Public.

now I'm going to use the [image] command with that link and we should see your pic below this line:

Hope this helps,

All those would be considered rakes and would be used in a "scrubbing" motion. The last one with the octopus image probably isn't as effective because of how large it is. The first one is the closest to the original Bogota design.

The last pick is Sparrows 'Octo Rake'. I personally use a combination rocking/light back and forth motion with any of the picks in the photo. The biggest tip I can give you is start off with light tension, and if you don't get an open in a minute or so, start varying the tension. Sometimes you will have over-set pins that can drop when going from medium tension to light etc.
