Medeco has a steel spring that is used in positions 3/4 on the 32 series LFIC for the control sleeve. Supposed to be a little stronger spring but I have seen thousands keyed with a standard spring and worked fine. I think Corbin Russwin has the same thing for their 8000 series core which is identical to the Medeco.
Sargent uses steel springs in most of their cylinders.
Not really a driver, but National Cam Lock has used steel springs in their cam locks for years.
