Any tips on how to extract a broken pick from a pintumbler?

Postby W31RD14C » 16 Sep 2019 12:55

Hello from Sweden!

I just got my eyes opened for this mind juggling sport, so I started on some padlocks, did manage to open some cheap ones called HardHead, Hall Miba, BD CORBIN-Italy.

Made the picks myself from discarded stainless cutlery. And it was a blast of joy bolting that first lock. But now it seems I'm at a loss, and my wife is kind of angry with me, I went from these cheapo locks to two ABUS No 85/40, they just won't budge,.

To rekindle my spirit after a huge amount of attempts and some more callus, I thought of trying the front door, and this is where my wife gets annoyed with me, cause I've managed to break my pick in the keyway.

But I grew bored and when my kids went to sleep I tried the backdoor, with the same result as the front door. So now wifey is mad at me, and has strictly forbidden me to try the basement door.

So what do I do, I break another pick inside one of the ABUS.
What were you expecting, I might be wreck less and stubborn, but I'm not suicidal, so I leave the basement door alone... for now.

You got any tips on how I can make my doors the same way they were before, I'm all ears (or eyes in this forum)!

It is probably too late to tell you the 3 rules of hobby lock picking, but I'm going to say it for the future generations who will find this post. Then I will tell you how to fix the problem.

1. Do not pick locks that are not yours, unless the owner has given you permission

2. Do not picks locks that are in use to secure a door that is in use, things can go wrong and then you may not be able to use the lock or unlock the lock, or be able to insert a key.

to get the broken picks out of your door locks you have some options:

1. simply shake the entire house and the lock picks will fall out.
2. remove the doors from their hinges and shake the doors until the picks fall out.
3. remove the cylinders from the doors and shake them until the picks fall out.
4. go to amazon.com or ebay.com and buy a stainless steel magnet.

I think you should work on the basement as soon as you can from the inside.
Nothing is foolproof to a talented fool. Wisdom is not just in determining how to do something, but also includes determining whether it should be done at all.

Several methods, but the recommended ones are:

1. Flowers for the wife.
2. Chocolate for the wife.
3. Promises to the wife not to pick the locks of your home.

For other advise, we need to know the type of lock we are dealing with. A picture would help. Without that, we can't give advise on the best way to remove the broken off pick. There are quite a number of styles of locks used, and that will help us to give the best advise.
