Single Pin Picking Problems

Postby Sportbike5000 » 7 Mar 2005 1:33

I went through the FAQ, but didnt find anything that helped me. Ive been trying to single pin pick a No. 1 masterlock thats been laying around for some time. Ive raked it open, and even ripped it open (after reading it on the forums) but single pin picking still gets me every time. Im still getting the amount of torque down, but whats the best way to learn this.

My picks are Southord 14 piece set. From buying online to my hands, 3 days. Very impressed.
Only thing I seem to be able to pick is my nose

Have you tried other locks? You've got a great pick-set. Sometimes I've noticed when I'm picking locks open I'm capable of raking a lock open and sometimes in some cases unable to single pin pick it open. But usually as probably described in the posts you've already read, its mostly you just have to get the feel technique down (feeling the pins set and what not). Also when picking don't always try and go for the furthest back pin when picking.. sometimes rotating which pins you set first does the trick... Just keep on trying and don't give up. You'll get it soon just remember to feel the pins set.. It takes a little to get used to and make sure you don't get it confused with a pin that falls of your pick when picking (giving you the impression that the pen has set on the shear line... And also have you took a look at the key? I know that kinda blows the puzzle (because lock picking after-all is a puzzle right?) But if you happen to have the key on hand take a look at cuts, this gives you an idea of how much you need to raise the pins. BUT if you happen to not have the keys on hand.... Rake pick the lock to the open position, and if you have a hook pin (I would hope you set came with one lol) stick the pick in the lock and feel inside and get an idea of how high some of the pins need to be raised in order for the lock to be picked.

I hope this helps, Good luck and just remember this usually isn't mastered over night... You'll get it just keep trying!

Haha wow I had no idea, as you already have noticed I am a new user. I'm just trying to get my foot in somewhere in here as I have found myself stuck on this site for references. So I figured I'd pitch into help some people, everything has to have an answer at some point. Thank you for you welcoming.
