ive searched on numerous occasions, both on this site and google, and seen the thread where the guy compiled a bunch of videos, but i have a question. are there any really good videos on actual lockpicking (not Pyro's video on making picks) that are available for free? i havent been able to find much if anything. the only ones i found were the H2K and H2K2 and DefCon videos, and those werent that much help. im looking for a very basic lockpicking video that will explain the basics of picking. any info or links greatly appreciated.

Videos won't teach you much of anything really. Read the Mit guide.
Well I take that back, it was mildly helpful to watch some Hank Spicer videos on some stuff. Still not as helpful as the reading though.

I am in very much agreement. the videos don't really show you anything... it is all about practiceing what you read and learn. and learning by doing. This isn't something where you can really see what others are doing (the lock casing is kindof in the way ) so videos jsut don't help in this case .
good luck

The best experience you will find is with practicing on various locks. Visuals are seconday in lockpicking. Feel it out.

I'm gonna have to disagree with the posters above me ^.
A big part of lockpicking is not just the feel, but interpreting what the feel means. Because as humans we are visual creatures, we have a need to accurately 'see' the lock inside of our heads, and that can help with the lockpicking itself.
I don't think books or movies are any better than one or the other, just a different resource.

I think that a video, if done correctly, would be very helpful. This is what I invision... a side angle shot close up of a cutaway lock. You could see the pick slide in and manipulate the pins as they are being set. Perhaps some voiceover describing the thought process as it is happening. Maybe a vocal explaination of the use of tension to go allong with it.
Of course, I don't actually have the means to make it, but I think it would be a great video for newbies.

I had thought about it last night and i decided that just like DB said a vid may work on a cut away and i think one could be made but it would be quite a but of effort. i don't have the resources to make it or i definately would. Still though although we are visual learners... this is what i did..
I watched the lockpicking article on howthingswork and after i watched their visuals. i most always pick withmy eyes closed now and make a 'visual' in my mind and that is what works best for me. By eliminating one of my sences it helpes me to better focus on the other ones. Once i started this i started picking much better. i could remember what pins were set and suspected security pins and information like that. I recomend trying that. Focuse on your sence of touch and hearing and make an image in your mind.
the vid is a good idea and i will see if i can make one but i am not sure where i will aquire two cameras cause that is how i think it would work best. Also i need to get a cutaway because i don't have one of those either. he he
happy picking

The Locksmithbiz course has something very similar on one of the videos, db, and it uses it for several different techniques.

That's cool vector. I'm still one who favours the free exchange of info. I love that I have been able to learn tons without having to pay for all the knowledge (though LSS wasn't cheap ). What makes this community so great is that there are those who donate their time and effort to make info available non-commercially. I would love to see more videos that are in the public domain.

The H2K2 video starts off with barry picking a cutaway for demonstration of how a lock works. I haven't watched it in a while, but I am pretty sure.
I have never visualized the inside of a lock I was picking, I just felt it out. Perhaps I am a kinesthetic learner, as I usally learn by doing.
