Can Schlage and Yale parts be mixed at all? or others?

Postby jurvis1 » 18 Mar 2005 22:28

I have a schlage deadbolt on the front door of my house and a yale keyway on the back mortise cyl. 15/16". I tried using a schlage cylinder in the Yale mortise because I have no used schlage mortise cylinders and it was close, but not close enough. I then tried to find a yale cylinder that might fit in my schlage deadbolt and could not do that either. Yeah, I could just replace the whole works, but I just was wondering if it is possible to interchange parts like this so that you can use the same keyway without having to replace the whole lock out!
I can't see the lock through the tumblers!

No steel door. Old wooden door with an old commercial style Yale mortise lock. I'm a yank. Never heard of Marks. Are you saying that these parts would work? One cam is like a commercial tailpiece like you'd find on a commercial mortise and the other is a straight tailpiece like a residential deadbolt. Anyway I wondered if there was an easy way and since probably not then the only way to go is with another lock.
