lockpicking CD - help!!

Postby master in training » 20 Mar 2005 13:30

im making a cd to teach people everything they need to know about lockpicking, from making picks, to picking locks, to pick care. so far i've got everything from Zeke's HTTP as well as a collection of info im gethering from around the site.

it was meant for people who had a dial-up internet connection and so couldn't get the files from the site, but i expanded it to include everything, sort of a one stop shop for all the basics on picking.

i can burn the cds and mail them to people, as long as people send me the money for postage and the cost of cds, i'll take a cd to the post office asap and see how cheaply i can send them and buy cds. hopefully it wont be much more than £2.

this is where everyone else comes in...

im going through the site finding good things to put on this cd and i'd like some suggestions for things to put in and if possible the info on it.

so far i've got info on making your own security pins, pick care, silver soldering and treating homemade picks. these are by people such as Dry132, peaky, daedalus and Geek142, as well as some other small parts added by other people to the topics.

if there is anything anyone would like to say, such as info on something, or complaints about me using their posts etc, feel free to PM me or something.

i will be including a list of everyone's usernames that i took info from, so that they can be given recognition for their knowledge.

sorry about the long post! i think its a worthwhile cause though, whether anyone else does is another matter but oh well!

Awesome idea. It would be better if people could just download the cd instead of waiting for a postage. I can provide fairly fast hosting if u would like. Or we can start a bit torrent, and i could seed.

im not too familiar with bit torrent, but it could be hosted if you were willing to. as i said, it started as an alternative for people with slow internet connections so that they could get all of the videos and information from the site hosted by Zeke it mainly consists of the videos, im sort of just filling up space to make it to 700 or 800mb, however big the cds i use are.

I'm willing to host. We could provide both HTTP and bit torrent. Bit torrent would be a faster download due to the fact that the uploading is shared.

ok, sure, a lot of the stuff that will be on the cd is on zeke's site, so there isnt a lot of point doubling up, we may as well leave those for zeke to host and host everything else seperately.

its no where near finished yet anyway, so we'll have to talk more and sort it out. it still needs some input from other people so we'll see what happens.

Only just realised your initials are MIT!! is this the proper meaning of the MIT guide or is it just a coinsidence (spelling).

Can you mail me the link of where you got how to make security pins from please as i havent come across it before and i thought i had read the whole site

Anything up to 60 grams can be posted on a first class stamp so a cd is no problem, when i send discs i stick them in a jiffy bag with a 1st class stamp and it goes everytime.

I bought a load of discs off ebay, i know people say the cheap discs are rubbish but im 200 in to them and havent had an error yet, loads on ebay have a look, mine were the cheapest at the time and are made by ridisc.

If you are putting pick making articles on the disc my suggestion is to have a look over my threads on grinding wheel safety, im sure that with a cut and paste session you could have a very good safety file included.

thanks peaky!

the cds i have right now i got 100 for £10, which i thought was cheap, they dont have cases though, i'll look on ebay and get the cheapest i can.

i remember reading a massive thread on ginding wheel safety, i've been looking for it for the last few days because i couldn't remember who posted it or what the title was or anything. i'll get it added to the cd though, it was one my mental list of things to add.

the thread on making your own security pins is here: http://www.lockpicking101.com/viewtopic.php?p=68726#68726

as for my name, its total coincidence, i realised it a few days ago when someone referred to me as M I T and i noticed it and thought how confusing it could get.

Oh btw, is the file supposed to be just a big archive of info or is it gonna have a "eductional" style to it?

its a sort of archive of data, but with information on things to do, like making picks and safety. there are no real set lessons, but it includes information on a lot of topics. if that makes any sense :?

I think a link archive to good threads on common topics would be great.
