snapping

Postby cred » 28 May 2005 6:10

hi,
i have had a few of failed mechs in the last few weeks and on a couple of them when i have used the snapper i have had problems with the euro snapping before the retaining screw thus not being able to remove the other side of the euro stopping me being able to insert my euro unlocking tool. i know its not a problem as you can still open it but it is bugging me why this is happening, any thoughts/
thanx

As far as i was aware and the way ive always done it is to snap the euro,

The bolt hasnt snapped once on me yet,
Once snapped if the cam is left on the door you can either turn it round and push the lock through then use your tool or pull the cam out with some long nose pliers then push the lock out,

Some locks you are better off only useing an up and down motion with as well but you dont get as much surface area to 'hold' with the tool so be a bit more careful when doing it this way

Shrub I think you've missed the point, the euro is failing to break across
the fixing hole and breaking to one side of the hole leaving half the
cylinder still bolted in the lockcase.

I don't know why this happens either but on the few occasions it's
happened to me it's only been on 30x30s. :?

Oh ok,

Thats never happened to me either, its a shock that happens as the point of snapping is to take up the fault in the design, the locks that snap in the middle must be a very poor quality.

Or else they are locks that are designed to snap in the middle of the cylinder, so that you can't use a snapper tool to gain access in thirty seconds!

Mul-T-Lock do this, along with a few others. I'm looking to modify some for just this, to stop this attack even on relatively less secure (ok, Mul-T-Lock is a bad example!) but cheaper locks.

Um...what's the big hole in the map north-east of Preston? Is it part of the Dales?

been looking at the short universal upvc key think i will get one as the problem with euros snapping in front of the retaining screw, with this one you should still be able to open the door eaisily with half the euro still in.
