apprentice program

i was thinking that we could start an apprentice program on the forum., mabey some of the mods a senior members could take some of the new guys ( like me) and help them out. they could pm there mod or senior member with questions instead of making a new topic and the senior members could give them tips and help them out. just an idea and it would probably take a mod or willing senior member to get it started.

It doesn't really seem necessary. SEARCH, search again, search on more time, and if you still haven't found an answer to the question you might aswell post a topic because you've already expelled more effort than the average redundant thread starter. Don't be surprised if you catch flak for it if it is redundant though, because I've never seen a redundant thread that wouldn't have answered itself with a little effort on the part of the thread starter. There's not a lot of people in the world so dumb that they couldn't answer most of these questions for themselves, and the ones who are probably wouldn't understand the answer anyway.

A mentour scheme would be a good idea but as towch said anything you are going to ask on a pm is already answered on this site and when you get good enough to ask more complex questions that arent already answered a pm is probably not the best way to get a lot of opinions on somthing that obviously needs it.

This whole site IS an apprentice program with mentors and students all over the world who drop in at a single place and help each other out. That's what the site is about.

Why pm a single person when you can tap into the collective brains of a few thousand?

No probs Shrub, I'm just a little disappointed someone else found the need to use it...and so soon!

Perhaps a big picture of around 3 or 4 little ones showing how a pick works the pins then opens the lock with a tension wrench would help, if it was posted to every newbie it would be all over site and then any other newbies will more than likely see it before posting another newbie thread, if that made sence, you could add a link to lockpickshop or somthing so it answers where to get them from as well.

The brain is running at a fast-idle now...give me a few days with photoshop and I'll see what comes up.

but it wouldnt actually teach the newbies anything would it,

If there was a scene with various picking states almost like a story board, once a newbie question has been asked the first to see it would just post the pic and it would answer all his questions in one go,

This pic posted on every newbie thread will end up being all over site which will mean the future newbies will see it almost certainly before they get to start a new topic with another newbie question,

After a while all the newbie questions will be upgraded somwhat from 'how do i get my paper clip to stay hard' to 'which locks are harder o pick as i need more of a challenge'

Only an idea and a lot to ask of a cartoon strip but once youve got the basics off it could help a lot perhaps someone making a home made pick and then some one using a tension wrench with the pick etc etc

I know there is perfectly good q+a sections but they obviously still dont read them so just a link isnt going to cut it.
