Pick description

First off I want to say the search function only works 5% of the time for me, so don't tell me to search. When I put in more than one word and search for all terms I am generally met with zero results.

I was wondering if there was a list of all the picks that included pictures and a description of their popular uses.

Here is what seems to be the popular picks. I numbered them to make thing easier. Please add any that aren't listed.

First I would like to know their proper names. Then I would like everyone to describe what picks they like for what locks. Perhaps even a certain technique they use. Also, if you use a certain tension wrench for certain pics please add that.

before this person gets flamed, I just wanted to say I tried the search. I came up with no results for "pick uses" "pick techniques" "pick types" "hook pick" "diamond pick" and a few others. It does seem like something is wrong with the search feature.

If you don't like the sites search feature, get Google toolbar and use that, but you still have to search.

That's exactly the thread I was going to post a link to

By the way, that tempate is an old one. My picks have been slimmed down to fit a wider variety of locks and No. 15 has had the end prongs grinded off a bit to allow better entry and easier manipulation. I also have about 13-15 more picks that I've made since then that I need to include in my next pick photocopy template. Mostly rakes, a couple of slimmer feelers. :)

Expecting someone to use google toolbar is rediculous if they choose not to have it.

Yes, because if you don't use the Google toolbar to search, I will personally hunt you down and tie you to your computer chair and make you watch as I install it on your browser. Now that's ridiculous.

That thread help identify the picks, but it not giving me all the info I was looking for.

What is the pick of choice for the cheap Master padlocks?? Is there a special technique you use? How do they respond to picking/raking?

Masterlock cont'd

Postby The Wanderer » 4 Jul 2005 20:58

Hey Geno. I have always had good success against the laminated type of padlock with something called an L-rake. It looks very similar to the #9 above. I used a rocking sort of motion to open up the ones I have. Occasionally I will use a sort of quick jiggly sort of sawing motion too.

The brass bodied types like the #140 and the #240 respond well to individual pin picking with (see templates) #3, the half diamond, and #4, the small hook. The #140, as has been mentioned on the site many times, has a security/spool pin in it. You'll need to find the spool pin and deal with it first, then the others. There are many posts here that describe this action. I won't elaborate here. I use a slimline with a medium hook to get the #140 consistently.

Hope this helps. Ciao for now.
