Tubular Small bore vs standard bore

Postby noorudeenshakur » 13 Jul 2005 8:38

Hi, I have a quick question. I have ordered the HPC quick reset tubular pick and it appearantly does both standard 7 pin and small bore 7 pin.

Im wondering how it does so and why other 7 pin tubular picks cant do both.

The second part of the question is what exactly is the difference in small bore and standard bore ace locks. Can someone give me some real examples of a small bore 7 pin, and standard 7 pin locks. Ill be interested in trying to open both of these when the pick arrives.

Anyone have with experience with the HPC TLP-7SB quick reset tubular? What makes it so different than a standard 7 pin, and why can it pick small bore locks and standard locks while others cant do both? Does anyone have any links to videos of this pick in action, or some other good tubular videos?

Thanks

I have the hpc's sb pick and a southord 7-pin pick (new version)..
There are some tubular cylinders, where the SO's thick tip just wont fit..
And u can remove the "tension pin" on the hpc's pick if u need to..

sounds like the hpc's are a superior pick. Does anyone have a specific example of a small bore 7 pin? Something that the southford cant pick but the hpc can? or vice cersa, something the hp[c cant but the southford can?

Thanks

kryptonite

Postby raimundo » 15 Jul 2005 7:25

kryptonite locks with the lock cylinder coming out of the steel tube at the side are small bore ace locks, except when they are even smaller bore, the difference is about .015" in diameter, The standard bore ace locks are found on bicycle U locks, (also called D locks) but they are always mounted so the cylinder fits inside the tube and the lock face comes out the end of the tube, not the side where the small bores come out.
If you have a south ord pick, and there is some friction in the tube, that can be worked down with fine sand paper. leave the feelers in the pick, this helps preserve the sharp edges of the feelers channels, and also smooths the exposed edges of the feelers themselfs. protect the tips by haveing them zeroed into the pick, but examine them for any need to be dressed a bit with a file later. Hand sand, using a machine will expose the project to a too agressive bite possibility.

This is a tough question. I'm surprised not many people can give a direct answer.
