Security Pins?

Postby Shadowx » 30 Jul 2005 16:05

I was able to rake my doorlock open like 6 times. It is a defiant I think in the doornob in the US. Now I try to single pin it andwhen I push up on some pins the plug turns the other way slightly and can reset pins. Is this certaily security pins or is there something else it could be? It suprised me because I thought the lock was to cheap for this sort of thing. i understand you should use light torque when raking, but with the rake itself do you push it in and out slowly, quickly or do you jiggle it or do you rapidly scrub back and forth? Thank you.
That's MR. Sir to you.

I've yet to see a Defiant with security pins. Doesn't mean none of them do, but I doubt it.

Ok, bear with me here: There is a proper order to set the pins, from the one that binds first through last. The only way to find out which pin is binding is to use LIGHT tension. With heavier tension, more than one, or even all, of the pins will bind. If you set a pin first that should have been set third, for example, and then try to set the pin that should have been set first, it will rotate the plug slightly backwards, unsetting the pins. I suggest lightening up tension.

Thank you zekeo I think that seems to be a highly likely possiblility to my problem. I will try your suggestion.
