Name of this Abloy key?

Postby Drexon » 21 Oct 2005 6:03

Hi, new member here, glad to be one of you. :)

I'm sort of new to the names part of the lock picking industry and I'm trying to find out what type of key this key is. It's a fairly ordinary key here in Sweden and I've never read about how to potentially pick it, anywhere. Here comes the embarrising part, my 2 minute attempt at drawing a picture of it in MS paint. Here goes:

It has different angles cut into it's half moon shape, instead of 'jaggies' or 'dimples'. I was thinking it would be pretty hard to try 'n' pick one of these, anyone know if it even can be done?

Any help much appreciated.

I'm pretty sure it's an Abloy Disc Lock. Key hole should be in the shape of a semi-circle.

Some things may be pick proof, but everything can be bypassed....

Yeah, a moon shape, like the one on the left. Abloy disc lock eh? Any word on pickin' 'em? Maybe I should do a search first. :)

http://www.abloy.com.au/videos/Abloy_Protec.wmv

9 minute video, not bad pictures, animations and info.

Check out around 1:08mins and also around 3:30?mins,
might answer your questions.

It looks like an Abloy Classic key.
I have never tried one of these locks, but they look a bit
scary to me, as 3:30mins might show.

Take a look, make up your own mind

Abloy Classic are the start of the most successful high security mechanical lock range.

Unfortunately they don't all pick as easy as the classic model.

So the classic model is pickable after all? Maybe someone could provide a link to the n00b here. These half circle 'abloy classic' locks have surrounded my entire upbringing, I always wanted to know what makes 'em tick. I know now how the system works, and I've actually seen Barry pick one of those massive Abloy granit things. I'm guessing that's the sort of tool that is required? But if you're saying the classic type is actually pickable I wouldn't mind finding out the approach, just for curiosity. :)

Abloy don't make Granit's, Abus do.

Yes the Classic is easily picked with the right knowledge and tools.

This will give you the general idea, the rest of the learning to pick process will be up to you, and how you wish to persue picking these is also up to you.

The tool used by barry wels is of similar design to the tool that could potentialy pick an Abloy classic.

Thanks for the link, I now know that they're frikkin' impossible to pick, and that it's more or less a waste of money to even try. :P Just what I wanted to know.

The abloy classic cam lock that I have can be tensioned from the last disc. Or so it seems.
