Closed / open ended levers

Postby al25027 » 11 Oct 2005 16:09

Apart from the obvious, what difference does open ended levers have over closed and will it effect the picking/impressioning of a lock?

It can make a difference to the belly of the lever and make picking harder in this case. For example take a chubb 114 and 110 the 114 has different lever heights and if looking in the lock the bellies of the lever pack dont all line up in the the normal position. The 110 on the other hand does have bellies that line up thus making it harder to take impressions from. Not all locks with detainer type levers are this way though but i think this is a good example.

Thanks for clearing that up. The locks that i had in front of me were a 3u74 and an Avocet BS, which are both types, however the bellies of both lever packs do not line up or is this just for detainers

open ended leavers tend to have much nastier and deeper antipicks on the whole, the feel is different is all when picking.
except in the 3G114 and 3G114E locks where the E lock is easier to hand pick.

its just in design and in the feel for picking.
