Looking for info on 6 American padlocks that I just bought

Postby Greyflex » 5 Nov 2005 16:51

I just won this lot of American padlocks on eBay, but I do not have them, yet. I would appreciate any information on these locks, while I wait for them. Any info would be appreciated. I bought these for a challenge... Will I get it? Well, at any rate, I will get to play with two tubular locks! :)

RE: Your American Tubular Cylinder PADLOCK, HT-15 7 Pin Tumb

Postby Mike O » 19 Jan 2006 18:55

Hi,
Did you have any luck finding information on your HT-15 locks?
I have an HT-15 which I would like to re-key.
I picked it and got it open.
I then removed the screw inside the shackle hole.

At this point I was hoping the cylinder would fall out, but it doesn't appear to work that way.

Guessing... It appears that the entire cylinder may have to be turned or unscrewed to get it out(?)

If you or anyone knows the next steps to remove the cylinder please let me know.

Thanks,
Mike O

Note: For readers who don't have an H series tubular American brand padlock handy to look at, these do not have the usual removable plate on the bottom like most American padlocks do. The screw inside the shackle hole only appears to prevent the cylinder assembly from rotating inside the body of the lock.

Mike O, that screw in the bottom of the shackle is to keep the pin locked into the core. After you take the screw out, tap that side of the padlock on a hard surface to slide the pin back into the space where the screw was, this should free the core up. When you put the core back in, remember to line the hole in the core with the pin in the padlock. Hope this helps

Thanks! I will try that as soon as I make it back to the bench. I will post the results for the edification of others. Is this info posted elsewhere and I just missed it somehow? Thx again.
