N° 130 Master Padlock

Well, I can not open it.
Currently, I open the door cylinder I bought with it in seconds, by first raking, and then picking the one or two pins that are not set.

I can't do that with this ridiculous small and cheap padlock.

When I rake, everything goes well, and a few pins seem to set - the lock rotates just a bit.

Then, I definitely can't pick it open.

I first thought it was because I was inexperienced in picking, and that I could really rake but not pick, so I tried not to rake, and only to pick. The weird thing is that I feel like I set all the pins. And it the rotor moves a bit.

Then, I cant move it. I then thought about mushroom pins, and then thought again. There's no way they could have put those in a cheap padlock like this.

What's my problem doctor?

Your problem could be the amount of tension you are using.......try less. I suggest rereading the MIT guide again and again, and while your at it poke about Varjeals sticky on the top of every forum.

I'm pretty sure these locks have no security pins. I think the 130 is a scaled down version of the 140's I have. I struggled with one of the 140's until I found that one of the back pins sets very low. Knowing this now, it can be picked in less than 30 seconds pretty consistently.

If this is the case with your lock, you may have to use scaled down tools, as the regular sized ones could be setting a low pin high as you push the pick in.

HTH.

I'm correcting myself on the security pins.
The Master 140 does indeed have three spool top pins out of the four.

Mine seems to have two of them.

Two pins set gently by raking, and the two others (pins 2&4) need to be picked individually. I felt them using my tension wrench (a parisian clip : I don't know if it's said like that in english, but it looks like a nail with two flat tails), and then felt the pins with my pick (a curved hairpin). When I felt feedback in my tension wrench, I just slightly reduced the torque and pushed the pin till the second click.

I can now do it in less than three minutes. I repeated it 5 times.

Oh, and as you may have guessed, I don't have my tools yet :)

No, you ascii-drew a staple. It's like this :
Code: Select all
i_______
|------- here the two parts are very close

and when you use it to put papers togethers it like this :

Code: Select all
   p
   p|
i___|
|---| and p means paper
   p|
