Abus 24RK/70

Postby CVScam » 26 Apr 2006 21:51

I just bought an Abus 24RK/70 at a locksmith shop for $7.00 american dollars my first picture is of the box. My second picture is of the keys with have almost no cuts on them are those called 0 bit keys? With the current pin config the lock is VERY easy to pick. Do I have to use a special tool in the hole at the bottom to remove the cylinder and rekey it?

Yes, that key is zero bitted.
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!

The 24RK is the only model of that type of Abus lock (the circular bolt action) that is re-keyable. Hence the 'RK' = Re-Keyable.

Some things may be pick proof, but everything can be bypassed....

Many rekeyable padlocks come zero-bitted (they are expecting you to have it set up to an existing key that fits other locks you're using).

Rekeying question

Postby CVScam » 30 Apr 2006 21:03

I removed the cylinder and I am in the process of rekeying it I see the 4 pins but it has holes for 5 pins. I think I can can add a 5th pin and spring to make it harder to pick, my question is what blank would fit the lock if I did make it a 5 pin.

I think the blank you need is a 65SA/30.
