Yes, you've all seen them.


But, have you seen inside ?
Can you work out where the shim goes ?


Locked, but notice the gates are lined up, and the fence will drop in as soon as the shackle is pulled:

Hope this helps you visualise whats going on. This is actually a copy of a master lock, it has no false gates. It was made in about a hour, by grinding off the back edge all the way round, then copying the back plate in perspex/acrylic. Then the glue gun came out. Still works, and is about as secure as the original.

Oh all right, here's one with a shim in position. All thats needed now is a tug on the shackle.

Are you sure that isn't a generic knock-off of a Master? Last I saw that's not the mechanism in Master combo locks, but it's been a while since I've opened one.

It must be an old Master, because all the new Masters I've seen have a graduated latch to prevent shimming. It looks like one high bump and then a lower bump that actually enters the hasp.
