Legge Cylinder Lock problem with Electric Pick Gun

Hi,

I am having problems picking a Legge pin cylinder lock on my front door which is about 6 years or so old. I am using a HPC electric pick gun although manual picks seem equally as hard to open it. Also had a Legge lock on side garage door which was hard to open until I used some WD40 lubricant. The WD40 however does not seem to make opening the front door lock any easier. Have opened other locks quite easily using electric pick gun so am guessing it is not so much a technique problem. When I apply tension with just the wrench the cylinder moves slightly and the door opens using the key since I am just practising here so lock seems to be functioning. Could anyone suggest any possible reasons why this picking problem may be occurring. Any help much apprieciated.

Dont pick lock you rely on also you might as well be smashing the lock in becuase electric picks grind away the pins so much then your key wont work.

Look at the key, is it bitted extremely high-low? This might be the cause for hard manual picking as well as problems with the pick gun.

Sounds like your going into anti-pick, try feathering the tension on and off when using the pick gun or try different blades.

Thank you for your advice. I do of course keep access to another door to hand at all times so that I can replace lock if necessary but good advice anyway. Looking at the key the pattern seems to be a couple of notable variations but nothing perhaps particularly unusual, may open cylinder up to check on this if necessary. I know the snap keys for Legge tend to be taller so this could be a possibility. Also now thinking that lock could be older than 6 years so perhaps if I use something that is more of a lubricant than WD40 perhaps ASSA spray (if this is different) or graphite see if that helps. Only other idea is perhaps springs are weak or something so affecting getting the pins up. I do hear pins clicking back down after releasing tension so I think most of the pins are perhaps getting moved, perhaps there is a problem pin/spring. Tried all different tension so don't think this is the problem & seem to be able to open other locks. Anyway if anyone can think of something will be happy to hear of any suggestions.

Have you tried adjusting the gun ? Also try using the gun first then feeling the pins with a pick (keeping the tension on of course) to set any unset pins.Even though the gun may have worked on other locks it may need a different adjustment for this lock.Some locks just wont pick easily even on supposedly easy brands its just how it is .
