" City building inspectors had deemed the premises unlivable, and the city was forced to evict about 30 tenants of the building who were regular residents of the building rather than motel guests."

I guess I need more english lessons, I can't determine just what they are saying there...

The largest denomination coin dropped (in US a Quarter in Canada a Tooney) into a soda machine makes a distinct sound when it hits the coin can. A near empty can makes quite a difference in sound than a full can. Theives know this and drop a test coin before going to the trouble of ripping the machine apart.

A work around to this is to cut a small piece of tin and tack weld this at the top of the can. This way falling coins hit the tin and give off the sound of an empty coin can.

In about 97 I was in Dallas for a Vendors convention and was staying at the Adams Mark Hotel. A gentleman carrying a pair of 5 ft Bolt cutters got on an elevator full of conventioneers and when asked he said he was there for the Convention and would be doing a demonstration on how vulnerable Pop Machines were to attack.

Some of us talked about it and thought that would be interesting and tried to find the schedule of events to go watch this happen. Couldn't find it so just never thought much about it.

Well he gave his demonstration all right. He totally mangled every Pop Machine in the building. Over 20 stories and a pop machine on every floor.

The nerve of the guy having a pleasnt conversation with ppl who own vending machines just before he was going to rip em apart.

I think it was in 94 in Vegas at another convention when the bastas entered the hotel and stole 6 full machines. LOL makes me wonder if perhaps it was one of the conventioneers doing this.

Ive seen somthing like that on one of these cop shows on sky,

A couple went into a wallmart and one had a clip board the other in overalls, they said they were servicing the atm machine then proceeded to get the clerk to sign a bogus document and they then wheeled it out the store,

the lock

the kik lock you found in the junkyard is an old schlage wafer lock, cheap construction, and the key is not milled, just stamped. you don't see these locks around much any more, I don't think schlage is still selling them. extremely easy to pick, it may even be possible to make a bump key from one of the old keys, the keys may have been cut on a clipper, rather than a mill wheel, theres only one cut, its a go-nogo setup, either a position is cut or not cut, there is no real change in depth along the key if I remember right, perhaps one of the locksmiths has better information.
