ABUS/CISA collaboration??

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

ABUS/CISA collaboration??

Postby NDEFreak » 24 Mar 2005 2:15

Greetings all. Question - I came across a euro profile cylinder in the workshop the other day with both ABUS and CISA embossed on the face. Has anybody heard of this partnership before and which spacing and depth would it be - ABUS or CISA? Or maybe, ABUS depth and CISA spacing or vice versa?? Keyway is of the Yale/CISA/ABUS/ISEO type - 999, C1, CS206 keyblanks all fit.

I picked it open. Spool pins were of the ABUS type and the pinning combination was horrible - deep cut, deeper cut, shallow cut, even shallower cut and keyblade height cut!

When I get my camera back I will post photos.

Replies and PM's much appreciated, thanks.

I have a house in italy and am looking to re-key the locks. They are mostly CISA. I would like to get some supplies before I go to italy next month, but I can't find the spacing and depth specs for these locks. Do you know of a source (also of pins, etc, if possible?)

NDEFreak, was the pinning of the security equal to those Abus uses? That means 4 spools and one serrated in the last pin to the rear? If that was identical I would suppose that CISA is just a different name Abus uses to market their locks in Italy. Or CISA purchases rebranded Abus cylinders because they get better prices compared to producing a own line.

Por repinning, well, I have cross-used pins from eurocyliders from various brands and had no problems with that (for picking etc). I think they are pretty much the same diameter, at least with the Abus, BKS, Zeiss-Ikon and FCV locks I have coma across so far. I seem to recall reading that Abus purchases their generic pins on the world market, so there seems to be some kind of standard diameter in that.
Due to financial limitations the light at the end of tunnel has been turned off until further notice.
