As I mentioned, db has one with a six inch pin, or he did have one, I gave it to him. I think there may be a number of specialty uses for such locks, just as padlocks are supposed to be multi use with a hasp, this pin lock is for various specialty uses, perhaps to lock valves on gas lines, or doors on trucks and containers, it could also be used to secure movable equipment to a stationary stand or table. If you just try imagination, there are many possible uses.

Raimundo has it right for the uses I have seen. Most I see are used by utility companies. Mainly the gas company to lock meters etc and they have been in use like this for years.
