I seem to have damaged a lock

Postby dogyears » 26 Oct 2006 0:17

Hi,

I sucessfully picked a lock today (woo !), it was a practice look off a doorknob I purchased specially for this purpose.

I am afraid that I might have damaged the locking mechenism, though. After turning the lock around 180 degrees, I heard a strange click and the lock stopped turning. I tried putting the key in but it only goes in halfway now. The pins are all "set" (they jiggle loosely in the lock), but I can't turn it anymore. Is anyone familiar with this problem, and how I can fix it ? Or should I go out and buy another lock ?

Thanks

problem solved : it turns out that the binding pins have prevented the lock from turning. Pressing down on those pins (now at the bottom of the lock, instead of the top) allowed me to turn the lock again. Yay.

For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!
