I know, I know. Never ever pick a lock you rely on. But I just got my first pick set and I was tired of picking my spare Kwikset deadbolt with a couple paperclips. So I took the Masterlock 140 off of my fence and started to work on it with one of my new picks.
I am new to this, so forgive my ingnorance, but I was using the one with a full circle on the end when POP! I got it open. I continued probing the lock anyway just 'cause I'm curious when I realized that I couldn't get the pick back out of the lock! I tried everything to get it out (including letting my gloating wife try) and could not. Finally I broke down and went to the local hardware store and bought a disk cutter for my drill. In about 20 minutes I cut that baby in half. It turns out that you can pass your pick out the backside of the ward and catch it in some gears when the lock is open. Anyway, I got my pick back and a new lock to boot. A win-win in my eyes, my wife sees it differently.
