Small Master No.120 Help

Postby Brujah » 24 Feb 2006 22:44

Im having alot of trouble with my Master No.120 Padlock.
I can't seem to figure out the inside of the lock.
After feeling through it I have concluded it has 2 or 3 pins.
I am able to easily rake it but when picking with a hook there is no chance in heck :S. I am a confused semi-begginer and am running out of patients. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I do have a few pictures but I'm unsure of how to upload them into my post. Well to sum it up it is a small suitcase style lock with the words No.120 and China on the bottom and has Master printed on the bottom of the sides. Thank you in advance.

To post pictures, you have to host them. To do this, go to an image hosting site (I use http://www.tinypic.com/ ) and host the image. a bunch of info will appear at the bottom right corner of the window. Highlight the text written next to where it says "LINK:". Now you can copy and paste the link into your post.

I hope that made sense. :)

Sometimes it's easier to rake the lock. If you can't pick it but you can always rake it what's the problem? At least it is opened. Picking requires more practice so... keep practicing.

PS:Don't loose patience... be cool about it and try easier locks to start with.

True I can rake the lock but I find raking takes no skill what so ever.
I would love to be able to pick it but I have tried and tried and tried and still nothing good has come out of it, I havnt even got it open with luck. I would love a few pointers from anyone who has opened this type of lock by picking. thanks again.

It's a 3 pin lock.

Looks like there's little that would hold you back.

Have you tried buying a deadbolt cylinder, taking it apart, and repinning it with first 1, then 2, then 3, then 4, then 5 pins?

Oh, so its one of those luggage lock things? I don't even see the point in single-pin-picking those. As for me, my tools cant even fit in into of those.
(Sorry if that sounded rude).

Hehe my bad, I found a similair lock in my house with a black casing around it and tried picking it, within five seconds I got it open. Then I procceded to move to the Master No.120 and BINGO got that open in less time. :( sorry for asking such a stupid question, now that I thought about it I must have been torquing it WAYYYYY to much going from a full 5 pin tumble lock that needs quite a bit of torque to a small dinky suitcase lock that needs a feather touch. hehe but thank you all for your help and lp101 is now my new favorite site for picking help. :D

There is no such thing as a stupid question. :)

Too much torque-tension-turning force... can be just as bad as too little. I really suggest you buy a 5 pin deadbolt which you can take apart though, but to each their own. :)

lol- 3 pins? Not that anyone uses it to protect anything valuable (or you hope they wouldn't), but I was thinking about how easy it would be to make try out keys for one of those locks. Initially I thought it was only 3 different cuts so 3^3, or 27 different keys. But then I got wondering that they probably have more than 3 different sized pins. Anyhow, with three pins, jiggling a rough fit might work well enough.
