What kind of deadbolt should I buy?

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Go to your local hardware store and buy a good lock from their selection. Then, when the voices continue, go seek help. I mean that in a friendly way...no sarcasm intended at all. People don't go into someone's apartment to just find out info about them so they can go to the mall and talk about them where they can overhear it. I have been to calls at people's homes where they were saying exactly what you are and it got worse over time. If it doesn't stop, please see someone for help.

I thought I was crazy for putting a single human hair across my Schlage keyway, to make sure no one got in during the day... when I come home if the hair is still there glued on with my saliva, then I know it's save the the CIA wont get me. this also works with gluing the hair from the door to the door frame.

nah. just kidding, I don't really do that.

maybe.

What Bond movie was that from? It was one of the first ones with Sean Connery--Dr. No? Thunderball?

The issue isn't with the key. I have two deadbolts on my door. One of them is that one that was there when I moved in, and the other is one that I put on there (I bought it from the Home Depot).

For my particular situation, I think that I'll go with an Abloy: the less people that know how to use it, the better. :)

Dude....

Don't drink the water in the bong anymore.

Really.

If it's really happening, and they are not stealing anything, have some fun with it. Rig some things around the house that they would never expect.

Make it fun for everyone.

If you're hearing voices, then duuuude, you gots problems.

I remember my first call like this. A lady had someone breaking into her home and rearranging the things in her refrigerator. They would also move her remote control for her tv to another room (always from living room to her bedroom) and for a while, they would steal sugar from her canisters. After a while, they started adding sugar back.

Another had someone stealing tissues, one or two at a time from the box. She explained that she knew this because she would count them before she left, and again when she came back.

Really.

several things.

one- look at non typical methods of marking your door, i.e. the hair on lock or on door knob.

two- hearing voices in public is not a good sign. it can represent someone trying to mess with your head, or a dissocative disorder.

three- finding things missing/moved can be a sign of several mental issues, such as a dissiocative disorder or something as simple as short term memory loss (i suffer from the latter)

four- try this. take a picture of several of the items you know to be moved regularly from distinct locations as you leave your flat. i.e. standing back to the door, take a pic of the end table. when you come home, repeat the exercise. -first thing- in and out of the door. compare pics.

five- look into getting a cheap webcam for your computer and set it up to watch your door for intruders.

six- if none of the above work please seek trained medical help soon, as most of the conditions that can produce this sort of symptom (if it's not someoen breaking in) are treatable, but more so if caught earlier.

I had an elderly lady who lived in my assigned area and she would call to report that someone was trying to break in. She had bars installed on every window and an iron gate acoss the front entry. She claimed that someone was banging on the doors trying to get in on a regular basis. She said there were two of them, one was bigger and he made a lot of noise. The other one was smaller because he made less noise when he tried to break in. She called the big one "The Beast" and the other she called "The Apprentice". The grass in the back yard was covered with dew and there were no visible footprints one night when she claimed they were beating on the door. When I walked through the area I left clear footprints. The back door was covered in spiderwebs so no one had gotten within a foot of it. She called numerous times over the years and eventually ended up going to a nursing home out of town, near her daughter. I miss the calls from her sometimes since I got to know her well and the stories, which she believed with all her being, were very entertaining to me. I always tried to solve the problem for her for the time being.

My advice-If you really do think someone's been picking/bumping their way into your house...don't post it on a lockpicking forum. I guess if you really wanna get a new lock, get a Medeco, they're nice, hard to pick, etc. but expensive.
