deadbolt lock help?

Postby KBsecurities » 15 Jan 2007 2:33

I've been able to pick several padlocks and door locks in seconds but when it comes too deadbolts I have difficult getting any pins to even set. The two deadbolts that Ive been trying to pick are a Schlage and a Kwickset. Can anyone help and give me suggestions on what I'm dong wrong? Are they just that much better quality and harder to pick?

we need more info.

are they installed in something? i hope not. how many pins? security pins? have you ever disassembled it? does the key work? is there any kind of branding other than kwikset and schlage?

we need more info to really help you thoroughly. pics also help tremendously.

Here are the locks. They are mounted on a 6x2 board. The silver lock is a Kwikset and is a simple deadbolt with no security pins or anything. The other brass deadbolt is a Schlage with no security pins either. Any suggestions? The pictures are on the links.

Neither of those have anything special.

Are you trying to pick them upside down or right side up? Upside down is harder than right side up for any pin tumbler lock.

Light tension and single pin pick.

The photos are just upside down, but I do try to pick them rightside up though just as if it was on a door. No matter what I try I can only get one or two pins to set though. The door knobs below the deadbolts I can pick in like 15 seconds though. Its very frustrating. I'll take your advice and try lighter tension. Maybe I'm being to rough with it.

Make a bogota pick and sand it really well, then learn light tension raking.

I looks like the deadbolts are in fact installed upside down, judging by the way the keys appear to be hanging. The knobs have keyways that are sideways, which is impossible, unless they are already picked, broken, or installed without being connected to the bolts.
The Schlage is a B300 series deadbolt which does in fact have security pins. Some pick easy, notwithstanding the mushroom top-pins, others will confound the pros.

The eisiest way to pick the schlage you have is to rake it with a S rake or if you would like to get that SP exp a littel raking in the beginging to set some of the pins then finish it off with a feeler. The best way to rake it is to put it all the way into the lock with no tension. then apply very little tension.Angle the tip of your pick upwards about 5-10 degrees and use a sideways come hither motion while slowly extracting the rake. Spp the schlage you have is very time consuming and frustrating if you're not very familair with it . The kwick you have is just a basic 5 pin tumbler. should have any trouble with that lock. remember that deadbolts need a little more torque towards the end because you have to turn the whole bolt as apposed to just the cam on knob locks.
hope this helps
