A1045 / American Keyway Depths

I'm trying to make a bump key for the A1045 keyway. Does anyone know what depth I need to be at? Certainly I can eye ball and experiment, but it would be alot easier if I just knew where I needed to be.

The depth and spacing link in the faq section is dead, but using the waybackmachine I see it doesn't list American. Anyone have another resource?

most american lock original keys have the key code on them... use a micrometer and do the math would be my best guess

These are Brinks keys and they don't have the code stamped on them. I'll just have to grab a micrometer and guesstimate I suppose.

you could do what you said in a previous post, take it to a locksmith. take your notes for your presentation and the lock with you to back up your story.

A #8 cut for an american padlock is .175". You already have the spacing laid out for you so with that you are good to go.

If this is your firs bump key remember to make the slope facing the Handel of the key shallow enough to get the key back out. ive herd of a few people putting keys in and not being able to get them out again.
