Master luggage lock...

Postby right-lobe » 5 Jun 2007 23:15

Unfortuneately no...
It's a small luggage Master lock..black body, with 3 gold 0-9 dials...looks simple, probably is...but driving me nuts!!
I just blew the dust off of my picks, no problems anywhere but this little thing.
I've seen a video on YouTube of some guy feeling it out, but no real clear deffinition of the how to....uuuggghhh....lol.
I'm ready to resort to bumping it with a hammer...but that wouldn't be satisfying at all...I want to beat this little so and so....

....nothing like coming back and being better with the trade then I was 20 years ago, and having this little thing give me nightmares

Seriously, an easy way is as follows. 001, 002, 003, etc. You'll crack it in no time at all.
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!

If you can buy dynamite legally just bring some over to my place and I'll open the lock and you can remove a couple tree stumps for me in trade :P .

feel it

put one finger on the part of the shackle that stays in the lock when its open, this will probably have a little collar thats a bit higher than the rest of the lock, then pull on the shackle while rotating the dials, when a dial sets hard, move to another dial, do this randomly and dont be committed to a single set, just keep trying, you don't have to look at the numbers to do this, you cold do it in the dark.
that above part is with a lock that has three wheels on the edge by the part of the shackle that stays in the lock when open,
It just occured to me that master makes a three wheel sesamee style lock where pulling on the shackle dosent help, in that case, get a piece of thin but very stiff metal like a ten thousands feeler gauge or the spring from inside a tape measure, and use a tin snips or heavy sharp sissors to cut a blade about an inch and a quarter long and a bit more for the handle and put this in the lock alongside the middle wheel, push it straight down in at the top edge of the wheel opening as you are reading the wheels right side up,when it stops, press the shackle in and push the blade in a bit further, this should pop it open, if you want the combo, you can feel these a little bit but you won't know what your feeling until it pops, remember with this type of lock you must press the shackle in an pull it out for every try of the wheel, you will only feel it as you are very close to the opening (a couple of wheels already set)
these may be user set combos, so if there is a date or an address or some 3 number thing you can associate with it, (telephone prefex) that would be a good place to start.
if the combo is not 000 its not likely to be near either end so if your gonna do the whole thousand tries, start a five hundred and work to 600 then go back to 400 and work to 500, very likely few people will set such a combo as 010 or anything that would seem simple or too close to an end that they would expect someone bruteforcing it to come upon quickly.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!
