while imho it is not something that should be printed on every lock, the mfg specs for nearly -everything- are available from the mfg if you know where to ask for them.
heck if you buy several of a lock you can reverse engeneer the spacings easily enough with a hardware store caliper.
as make mag says: if you can't open it you don't own it. now, with some tings like disk drives, where opening it can compromise it's dust tight seal that's one thing, but a mechanical device that is relied on there's no reason to not know how and why it works, provided you are not using that information to produce a knockoff.
