Good central site for cutaways and/or descriptions?

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Good central site for cutaways and/or descriptions?

From some of the stickies it seems that there isn't really a good central site that has lists and pictures of interesting locks. Has anyone ever thought of making a site? Basically what I am thinking is a site that has a good index of maybe 100 locks from around the world.

I would think there would be two things needed:

1) Whoever started it or whatever group started it would need a pretty decent collection of locks (or collection of photos that they have rights to)

2) You would have to get permissions to use pictures that others have taken.

I think it might be tricky to get permission for lot of the nice cutaway pics because if the site ever became strong... their site would probably lose some hits.

Anyway.. I was thinking that since there are lots of people on here that have pictures of their locks... and I am sure contacts with locksport groups that gets locks for competition... there must be someway to get a good catalog of the more common locks.

So far my source for a good overview of locks in the world have been

1) Posts on this site
2) http://www.toool.nl/cutaway1.pdf (and future posts I hope)
3) http://www.crypto.com/photos/locks.html
4) Random searches finding this sort of thing (http://locksandsecurity.blogspot.com/20 ... ccess.html)

Since the community here seems pretty sharing... is there any interest in organizing people to take their old pictures or taking new ones and getting a pretty decent catalog going? It could be a sticky or perhaps even a sub-site that let you quickly jump to peoples pictures and see what a particular lock looks like or find out about new ones.

Anyway.. it seems like a number of people here are interested in finding cutaway pics and often have to search all over. Has this been discussed before or attempted? I would think that if all of the leg work and time got the page going... that many people would be happy about it (if it successfully highlighted and showed a very nice share of locks).
