Hey Schuyler, I think Lockwood has already done something very similar to your check pin modification - I believe it was called the "Lockwood 7" and there was a check pin right at the back acting at right angles to the other 6 pins. There's some more detail on this in my book.

Greyman, Lockwood V7, has staggered pins one tilted to the left, one the right etc all the way. Restricted blanks and special equipment required to cut them. I have one somewhere if you want a picture .

Greyman - are you not thinking of Lockwood V7, but all the pins are staggered in that lock ?
