Buying a repinnable cylinder?

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Buying a repinnable cylinder?

Postby zarbk » 3 Dec 2007 1:29

Does anyone know where I can get a cheap repinnable cylinder? Google has been no help, and I want to make sure I'm not buying a 'replica lock' with completely incorrect spring tolerances etc.

Like just a cylinder with some kind of locked plate at the top giving easy access to the springs/pins or something.

Thanks!

Almost all Kwikset locks uses a metal cap at the top of the cylinder to hold the springs and pin stacks in place. All you need to do for those locks is to just pop out the cap with a screwdriver and then bend it back to snap it back into place for easy re-pinning.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

Would it work if I got a 8$ deadbolt or something? Would I be able to take the cylinder out of the larger knob thing?

Something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/KWIKSET-DEAD-BOLT-S ... dZViewItem

Yes, it will work. Any Kwikset lock will be easy for you to repin.
