Mul-T-Lock MT5

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Mul-T-Lock MT5

Postby linty » 11 Dec 2007 16:59

I posted this in public and am not going to discuss anything relating to lockpicking whatsoever but i was just talking to my mtl rep today about their next patent and thought I might share what I learned.
It's going to be called MT5.
It has no interactive pin.
It has a groove similar in style to that seen on cx-5 in which finger pins travel.
The groove is factory milled.
The finger pins work with a sidebar.
There is some sort of moving part at the end of the key.
A new machine will be required to cut these keys (not sure why, but at first glance the spacing seems different for starters).
The new machine is fully automated, available now, and can cut all previous MTL keys.
The new machine can engrave information on the keys.
The locks / keys will be introduced to different countries at different times depending on when their current patent expires. Here in Canada the current patent expires in 2014.

Hopefully somebody finds some of this interesting.

We have to wait that long??? Man, Mul-T-Lock really believes that their current locks still can't be bumped huh?

it's probably going to start coming about here about 2 years before interactive expires.
It seems a bit dumb for them to ignore a heavily publicized vulnerability (bumping) and focus on patent control, but at the same time it wouldn't really look good if they were to come out now and say "the lock you bought last year isn't good anymore even though we told you it would be good for 7 more years, buy this one!"

thanks for the vid link. looks like the alpha spring is pretty much just a redesigned interactive pin. hopefully it isn't as prone to falling out of the key and causing the key to get jammed in a lock as the interactive's were.

anyways, nice looking design, i had sort of thought they'd just move the interactive pin to a different position or something

I wonder if the old Souber pick set will be able to overcome the alpha spring and have enough room to freely move to set the pin stacks without bumping into the finger pins.

Where can you find out when the patent for the MTL will expire in different countries? Particularly in the US.

multi utube

Postby raimundo » 13 Dec 2007 8:30

That video animation on You tube is very good, shows the A spring. and in the related videos, Wzlom picks a 7*7 multi lock, whatever that it, with a pick that he very graciously shows to the camera just long enough to see it well. It appears to be the 'ganzua china' previously quickly flashed by El Gorgon, in his You tube vid, but so quickly and out of focus that it was impossible to really see what he had. Since he calls it ganzua china, I suspect that it come from Schuang or 13 song or newsparkling, can anyone tell me more,

it appears well sanded on the edges although it also appears to be a commercial pick, and from what I can make out looking at it, the indents on the edges are for dimple pins along the edges, while some small dents along the pick are for the interior telescoping pins and one large dent at the tip would be what lifts the outer telescoping pins.

anyone have more information about this pick they can share, what is the thickness of the metal, I believe I could make something like this out of brickstrap.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!
