KIK is key in knob, those are basically the cylinder/lock part of door locks and such. They look similar to:

Which is from a padlock but all the same.
Locksmiths can frequently have buckets of cheap ones of these, and they would most likely be willing to give/sell you one at a cheap price. You can always go to a hardware store and buy a cheap door lock (Generally $8-12) and then take it apart to get to a cylinder like that.
You can also buy padlocks to do it with, but the trick with those is to make sure they are rekeyable (or else it is way too hard to make a cutaway to be worth it).
The basic idea of a cutaway is to depin it, file down to see the chambers, put it back together:)
