Where to find security pins?

Postby jpc1618 » 19 Feb 2008 14:19

I'm trying to learn to better pick some types of HS locks by, among other things, replacing selected pins from a known lock with security pins and then observing how the feel of the pins changes and what I need to change in my picking technique to then be able to open the lock. I would like to find a source for .115 serrated and (hopefully) mushroom pins that doesn't require a locksmith's license. I have already managed to get a selection of spool pins, but am having trouble locating any other type of security pins. Anyone else out there been down this road before? Is it even possible to buy the new spool-serrated "hybrid" pins that are starting to show up?

Has anyone put together a "primer" on learning to deal with mushroon pins? I've learned to recognize and pick some spool pins some of the time, but mushroom pins! Yikes! I can't even think where to begin...

Thanks

i dunno how it works in other countries outside Sweden but why don´t you just try out your local locksmith?

Ask if they have them and tell them you want it for your cylinder / padlock w/e you need it for and show it to them. If you´re lucky and the locksmith is nice you might walk out of there with a couple of new pins :)

I wouldn´t mind selling a few pins to a person that needs it for his /her lock

I've been meaning to buy this set for some time. Haven't heard anything about it so can't review it. It sure looks nice though. http://www.lockpicks.com/index.asp?Page ... ProdID=523

I also personaly find mushroom pins harder, that said its likely just having come across spool pins far more oftern I am more used to them. Also the mushroom drivers were of varying lenths which seemed to complicate things. You do pick the mmuch the same as spools however.
