Long story short, there's a keyhole and I'm trying to find a key that fits it. I don't know how key sizes are measured and such...so far I've tried several other spare keys I own, none of them fit.
How am I supposed to find a key that fits the keyhole!
thanks. it's for bumping btw.

In that case I would suggest taking the lock to a locksmith, no big deal, key blanks are not very expensive.

I actually get people asking like this all the time.
"Do you have this key?" (over the phone)
me "What type of key is it"
them "It's brass"

also good is the:
me: what does it say on you're key?
customer: nothing
me: there are no markings of any kind?
customer: oh, well it says schlage on one side, and SC1 on the back. Is that what you mean?

UGGGH
Am I supposed to just do trial and error? Just buy lots of blank keys and find one that fits?
And no, the lock does not have anything written on it.
oh my gosh yo.

Well, in fairness you're not giving us a lot to go on here. A picture of the lock would be great. Even telling us what country you live in would be of use, so that we might be able to point you towards some standard locks.
The easiest route, as has been suggested, would be to take the lock to a locksmith, and ask them for help. Most countries typically only have a dozen or so keyways in common use -- but full keyblank manuals are, literally, hundreds and hundreds of pages long, with each page describing a half-dozen or so keys. Without some experience it's very hard to match a key blank to a particular lock on your first try -- and it's much harder when all you know is "it's a lock".
