Do you not have the control key for this lock? If not, that's a bit odd... and you'll have to repick the lock to control. (Given that the core is out of the shell, I'd try using your finger to put gentle pressure on the control lug, on the side of the core, rather than using a tension wrench... you'll be far more likely to pick it to the control shear that way.)

I've not tried shimming an IC to control... but others here may be able to comment on whether that's doable?

Wow, good job. They're tricky because of the two shear lines. When you picked the lock to 15 degrees clockwise, it retracted a "latch" in the rear of the plug that allowed you to pull the plug out of the shell. If you kept the lock picked to that position, then you should be able to slide the plug in and out of the shell all you want. But if you reset the lock after you pulled it out of the shell, then you are going to have to pick it again to 15 degrees clockwise before you can reinsert it. But now it's easier to pick. Now you can just push on the "latch" to create your tension and you won't have to use the SFIC tension wrench. Hope this helps.

To shim it, you'd have to forcefully remove the cap in the back, and even then, I think you can only shim it to one shear line (the operating one I think).

If you go this route the easiest way to do it is to drill the rivets out, but doing it pretty much ruins the usability of the cylinder. Another option is to take it to a locksmith. They can rekey it to an operator and control key for you. The place around m who specializes in best said it would cost around $15 - $35 depending on if I want a new core or if they have to remove the core from the padlock themselves. teh low end was me bring in a core and they just rekeying it.

Hey guys,

Do not drill off the rivets unless you wish to ruin the usability of this core. It IS possible to shim either shear line on this core BUT it may be very difficult due to the very tight tolerances it is made with. The riveted on retainer plate does not have to be removed to shim. The shim will go in just above the plate for the operating shear and one eithth inch above that for the retaining lug shear.

You stated it was your lock? Or just a lock on the door you are assigned to? If it is not your personal property please put it back in before you lock it out.
Nothing is foolproof to a talented fool. Wisdom is not just in determining how to do something, but also includes determining whether it should be done at all.

shim

You may be able to file carefully and remove a small section of the riveted retainer without destroying its function. you would still have 7 eighths of the retainer in place, and a flat side filed to allow the shim in, remember that the filing will likely spall some of the meta into that thin area where you want to put the shim, so after fileing a flat on the edge of the retainer, you will want to debur the area by picking out the burr from this slot with a needle tip.
