This is a Folger Adam mechanical lever lock, I consider it the cousin of the Folger Adam mogul cylinder. It's a heavy, no super duty lock. It weighs in at around 10 pounds, and the shell is ¾ of an inch thick! Do you plan on breaking out of prison with this lock in your way, I don't think so.

If you wondering what kind of key operates this lock, take a look here.

Once again, I will put a few up for sale. They'll be a bit more than the mogul cylinder considering I only have 6.

Heres a little factoid I just discovered...

Two keys can be used to operate the lock. One key can lock but not unlock, The other key can lock and unlock.

Out of curiosity, more on the historical than the lockpicking side: any idea of where these would originally have been in use? (Other than "a jail".)

I know all of the state prisons in Michigan use/used these for the main gates between cell blocks. I'm unsure if they are used anymore.

Great pictures Urbex!

I have one of these beasts. It is so heavy I could lean the lock against my door and no one would be able to open it!

Thanks for taking it apart and taking the pictures. I've been too chicken to take mine apart because I didn't want it to explode under all the spring tension. I now see it is just a standard lever lock, with monster springs.

Urbex isn't kidding about the weight of this thing, it is a monster. If you put it on your lap your legs will go to sleep.
