Need instructions on how to reset 1 1/2" 4 dial Brinks

Can anyone tell me how I can reset this Brinks lock combination? The only identifying information is Brinks on the side, it is a brass 1.5" 4 dial resettable combination lock. Pat #6,176,109B1.
I think I accidentally set the lock into the "combo reset mode" while it was unlocked and now it will not close. I have looked everywhere on this site and on the web to no avail.
Any assistance in getting instructions on how to reset the locks combination would be appreciated.

Normally with the lock unlocked turn the shackle 180 degrees from the locked position. Push the shackle down. Turn the shackle 90 degrees either direction. Set your combo. turn shackle back and pull up on it. The combo should be set.

Do the dials need to be set in any manner when resetting the lock? I am turning the shackle 80 degrees but it will not press down.
