Hey I'm kind of new at this so don't laugh if I screw anything up :) I just got this lock in today and I'm trying to pick it. So far no lock. I am able to get the pins to the shear line really quick with this pick but I am unable to align them to release the sidebar. Any tips would be apprieciated... Here are the photos:

someone can correct me if I'm wrong - but from my observation of medeco cam locks, there isn't really a sheer line to pick to - meaning, once the sidebar is retracted you will have it unlocked. The tricky part is aligning the grooves in the pins to accept the sidebar fingers. I personally use either a "batman" style rake, or half diamond, in a giggler style technique. I havent dissassembled one far enough to see if they utilize ARX pins, but I would assume they use some thing of the sort, since the pins do require lifting. again, if I I'm way off base here, I'm sure someone will correct me! good luck!

Sounds about right too me. I just found out about the shear line thing. As for the ARX pins I don't even know what they look like or what that means ;)

OK.... Here goes.

#1 The cam locks don't have a "sheer line" to speak of... There is no pin-tumbler portion to them.

#2 The "tool" you show is a rake. Do you want to pick the lock or simply masturbate it into submission? IE; Raking a lock != picking a lock.

The cam locks don't have a "groove" but rather "holes".

You have to rotate the pin to the proper rotation *AND* lift it to the proper height *AT THE SAME TIME* before a pin is set. There are false "holes" in the pins well.. At least on the ones I've seen.

I said I was a beginner. I started trying with a regular pick and I can now open it real easy with 2-3 pins :)

That is a good way to practice but you'll need a few more of the same camlock all keyed differently that you do not disassemble as by doing what you are doing now, you are learning all the subtle features of the lock using a method that cannot be done in the field. Your overall objective is to be able to pick up a blind medeco camlock, not disassemble it in any way and pick it. Once you can do this without using the method you are using or looking at a key then you have become proficient in picking that type and or brand of lock.

You are doing right at this point to learn what you can about the lock. Once you can pick this lock with 4 pins installed consistently, then blindly switch the pins around so it is keyed different than it is now leaving all 4 pins in and see if you can pick it. If not, disassemble it and remove only one pin and repeat your efforts. Once you can pick any arrangement you can come up with using the four pins you have, it is time to buy a few more of these cam locks again all keyed differently and attempt picking them before looking at the key or taking them apart. Once you accomplish this buy several more all keyed different and repeat your picking again without observing the key or taking them apart. When you can pick about ten keyed different locks that you have not taken apart or observed the keys you are proficient in picking these locks and should keep practicing on more new locks or by atleast rekeying the locks you have to get you by while searching ebay for deals on more of the locks.

Anyone know where I can purchase a bunch of pins for these locks ? Or what the pins are called so I can search for them myself.

Find your local Medeco dealer. Go to the Medeco.com website - they have a search tool.
