I screwed up my deadbolt.

Hello,
I've been lurking on these forums for a little while now. I've recently started picking as a hobby. So I've only been picking padlocks, and had varying rates of success. So I decide to pick the Schlage deadbolt on my back door. It's old. Really old. So I pick it successfully in about 30 seconds, which is about the fastest I've done thus far. So I try to use my key afterwards, and it won't quite go in all the way. I can still use the lock from the inside but not from the outside. It isn't too big an issue as it's due to be replaced anyway, but I'd really like to know how to sold this problem for the future.
I'm not sure on the model of the lock, I don't really know how to tell.

Pretty sure the don't pick locks you rely on would go well here. As for solving the problem, maybe a more experienced user can help you out.

Agreed. I'm not too worried as it's so old, I'll replace it. However, I'd just like to know why this happened for educational purposes.

Ideally, learn from others' mistakes to avoid the problem in the first place. It's generally not a good idea to ever pick a lock that you depend on, but especially not until you have a very good understanding of how the lock works and how you can fix it if (read: when) something goes wrong.

At this point I would suggest first making sure you have a replacement lock handy, then disassembling the current one to see what went wrong. It sounds like maybe one of the pins is jammed or fell into the keyway, hard to tell without taking a look inside.
