also i cannot seem to get any tension on it.. i dont hear any clicks when i release tension, the lock mechanism seems so loose in there that i cant put tension on it.

I dont know what type it is, but I have seen that type of lock before, and the red safety thing. I use those at work along with the same type of master lock, "safety lockout". Maybe under the plastic it will tell you, i never tried to take it off...?

I did alittle research and I found out that master has a whole line of safety locks. The "safety series"

Those babies are loaded with security pins!

I remember with the one I had the keyway required two tension wrenches back to back at the bottom of the keyway, similar to how most people pick American locks.

Two tention wrenches? Why is that needed, just curious? Is it because the cylinder is loose?

A lot of mine sites in Australia use small padlocks like this (Lockwood 232) to lock off electrical machinery and power boards when someone is working on them, I don't know why there would be any security pins in them its not like they are to stop someone from breaking in, only to isolate something so people don't get electrocuted or hurt.

I have one of these...it looks and feels like a POS, but it is actually surprisingly hard to pick...mine also has a ruthless hi-low bitting :/, probably the maximum allowed by pinning specifications.

They are meant to keep people out when lives are at risk...they can also be mounted on various other dangerous equpt. like gas lines. The idea is that everyone who is working needs to take off their own lock. The reason for the pins is because of the danger. Would you trust a little 4-pin master with your life? :p

The places I have seen these being used in Australia security isn't the reason that the padlocks are used, just for safety so no security pins are used, one of the mine sites we would have to supply these types of locks too only used 2 different keys to work all the isolation padlocks on the whole site and would attach a tag with the lock of who, when and why the lock was used.

You nailed it right on the head, two wrenches back to back.

It essentially makes one large tension wrench giving you a better grip on the cylinder.

Someone at work just gave me one of these to try opening. I'm new to picking, but I've opened quite a few master #1's, 3's and 5's. I thought this one would be a piece of cake also.

So far no luck. If anyone has any tips on this particular lock I'd really appreciate it.

are there special wrenches to open these types of keyways? or is it just that the whole lock itself is so loose that its giving me trouble?

this is the lock
http://www.safetyseries.com/apps/safety ... 6827|26851

i find that putting tension at the top of the keyway allows me to set pins more often. apparently these locks are 6 pin eeh! huge for me lol. the keyway is quite weird, i think i need different types of TW's for it. and i am new to tensioning the top of the keyway so this lock is really hard for me. il get it eventually though =)
