Getting the feel for spp'ing

I was given a 'Tri-Circle 265 from an admirer'. The lock worked very nicely, new, freshly oiled. Snicked and Clicked. Sounded awesome. I grabbed my small hook and probed it to get a feel.
I must have been having a zen moment. I started feeling little bumps or hesitation points while i lifted the pins. I grabbed the tension tool (all tools custom made) and spp the pins again with what I hope was about medium tension. Started at the back and then the front. The middle fell in right at the end
Well, I thought my tension tool was slipping out, I stopped and saw that I had turned the plug and opened it. (approx 25 min Canadian). This is great. It seemed that I could feel (or imagine) the gaps between the lower pin and spring pin.
So, if I can feel these gaps, could I also feel a security pin during a probe?

Yes, there is no reason why not. Super light tension and a really good, as you say, zen like concentration and feel can yield surprising results. It may be possible to feel what is happening without tension just from the slight pressure you exert on the plug as you gently manipulate the pins as well.

Spools can wobble slightly as you push them up making them almost imperceptibly straighten when they pass the sheer line, serrated might kind of feel scratchy as they go further in and mushrooms are different still.

It's an awesome feeling having a new lock where you can really feel what is going on, like you say the clicks and movements are very precise. I had an epiphany about this a while a go and have concentrated more and more on really trying to see in my head what is happening. It works well with practise.

Thanx for making me feel Like I actually know what I am doing. I now want a lock with a security pin or two.
