That's a very generalized question. Models?

Just based on the general nature of the question, i'd have to say it's probably because you're not familiar enough with security pins and the type of security pins used in the American Lock series locks. For starters, what type of picks are you using? SouthOrd, HPC, Peterson, or homebrew? Then we move into where are you tensioning from, bottom of the plug or the top of the keyway? Is your tension wrench bending, if so you're using way too much tension. What model is the lock, some American Series locks are harder to pick than others. What technique are you using, are you trying to SPP the lock or rake the lock? Is the American lock the first lock you've picked or the twenty-fith lock, goes to show some level of experience and knowledge.

These are the questions that you need to give us answers to in order for us to better help you resolve your issue.

look at the keys, the are smaler than ordinary deadbolt keys, the keyway is smaller, most commercial picks are not made for small keyways, they fill up the american lock so much that pins are overlifted.
Use the slimest picks you have and sand them so they dont help the wards screw up the picking.
and with this pick in hand, just read Nutzmans posts on the american lock. particularly the most recent ones.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!
