please recommend a cylinder

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

please recommend a cylinder

Postby waterox » 26 Mar 2009 22:52

I have a Segal dropbolt lock with a Medeco Patriot rim cylinder.

Lately, my lock get picked, and I'm worried.

Are there any other cylinders that are better than Medeco? I read from M Tobia's book and our forum that Medeco is very easy to pick.

How are Abloy and Abit cylinders?

Please provide with recommendations. Price is not a concern.

Thanks!

Well as far as I know no one has successfully picked an Abloy Protec (though there was one mysterious video). But an upgrade to an M3 cylinder or a mul-t-lock would also not be a bad choice. But I would verify it with someone else as I am fairly new to locks myself.

I'm not sure where "Medecos are easy to pick" came from but that isn't true. Most people take many weeks to get good at picking kwiksets and schlages and months or years to pick/get good at picking Medecos.

Out of curiosity how did you know that the lock was picked?

Hope that helped,

Medeco isn't "very easy" to pick, just not as hard as people originally thought. I'm also curious as to why you think your lock has been getting picked.

I kinda doubt that your lock is being picked, Medeco locks are very pick resistant. Picking a Medeco cylinder on a workbench is one thing - picking it on a door is a whole new ballgame.
