I.D. This lock?

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

I.D. This lock?

Postby OysterRage » 16 Apr 2009 21:38

I saw this lock recently and I don't think I have ever seen this kind of keyhole before. Could anybody tell me what kind of lock it is?

Also, how it works and any other information you could provide (for example, picking techniques) would be great. Thanks!

(and a general question on how to use the forum: How do i properly put pictures in posts?)

this is an abloy style disc detainer lock, and operates by a series of rotating discs and a sidebar.
picking this lock is not for beginners,as a matter of fact, most expert pickers i know will shy away from
an abloy disc detainer.
they incorporate so many variables in their locks,i think they are a marvel.

Plus that lock appears to be in use, and I would hazard a guess you don't happen to own it.. So, no pick-fu for you!

Plus its crazy hard to pick. I have 2 on my residence, than a "security system" of 22 shotguns with deer slug shots all ready to fire automatically at said door. So I don't recommend you pick those locks on my door. 8)

And you posted the photos just fine. :D

Yeah, it is in use. I saw that one on a vending machine. I hadn't planned on actually picking it (even if i wanted to pick it and steal stuff, it's watched by security cameras).

I just noticed it wasn't the standard tubular that was on most vending machines and was curious to know what it was. All your responses describing how hard they are to pick would explain why they put that on instead of a tubular.

How do those kind of locks work, though?

Nanotechnology...

Seriously thou, take a look around this site, there is countless threads about those types of locks.. or google.. etc.. you will find what your looking for, less picking, those locks are 99% unpickable. It can be done, but you need special tools which cost more than the vending machine itself. (and those cost about $4,000.00 for a cheap one)

I haven't seen that keyway on an abloy yet, but I don't doubt that it is one, the circular parts of the keyway are abloy style.

Im guessing that its on a payphone, from the looks of the krinkle paint

It looks particularly nasty.
