Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Sargent mushroom pin locations?

Postby Darek84CJ » 21 Oct 2003 16:01

Anyone know which pins are mushroomed in Sargent locks? This is the kind with the removeable core
Thanks!

GENERALLY speakng, mushroom pins are rarely used in Interchangeable Core locks. Not to say they can't or may not be present, but it's not a general practice as far as I'm aware....anyone else had experience with these?

Btw. Why do you ask?

It depends on the particular "keyway" of the lock your speaking of. I know it's not discussed much in here due probably to the fact that most are unaware, but bot Sargent and Schlage locks have many different types of potential keyways.

Generally speaking, they are about even when comparing similar quality of locks and "similar" keyways.

A lot of times it depends on your confidence....for example, personally a Sargent would be more "difficult" due to the fact I am far more experienced with picking Schlage locks that Sargents.

Hope that helps.

A sargent in a commercial application like your office building is probably higher security than your every day Schlage. Id wager its a 6 pin lock and sargents have pretty tight construction anyways.

Bitter Man: Security-wise the only difference between a commercial grade Sargent and an every day Schlage would be the extra pin, perhaps a tighter keyway and a bit higher plug to shell tolerance. Nothing else in a standard commercial grade lock offers more security.
